Why we built it
A shop owner in India is asked to do a surprising amount of paperwork. A bill has to carry the right HSN code and split GST into the right halves. Stock has to agree with what is on the shelf. A purchase bill is only worth entering if the supplier's GSTIN is on it, or the credit is lost. At the end of the month, a return has to be filed from all of it.
Most owners end up doing this in three places at once: a billing program for invoices, a notebook or a spreadsheet for stock and who owes what, and the accountant's own software for the books. The three never quite agree, and the month-end is spent finding out why.
So Bill Minutz keeps one set of numbers. A bill, a receipt or a purchase is entered once, and the stock, the ledger, the day book, the GST return and the profit figure are all the same entry seen from different sides. There is nothing to post, reconcile or carry forward by hand, because there is only one record to begin with.
What it does
Billing
GST invoices, quotations, estimates, proforma invoices, delivery challans and credit notes, with the tax worked out from your state, the customer and the item.
Stock
Items and services, serial numbers per piece, bundles, more than one godown, and alerts before something runs out.
Purchases
Orders, bills, supplier payments and debit notes — and an AI scanner that reads a supplier's bill from a photo instead of you typing it.
Service work
Job sheets with photos and a signature on the screen, parts taken from stock, and AMC contracts that tell you before they lapse.
Books
Day book, ledger, cash and bank book, trial balance, P&L and balance sheet — built from your documents, in the form your CA expects.
GST
GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, 2B reconciliation and the annual return, prepared from your bills and filed through a licensed GST service provider.
People
Staff logins with page-by-page access, attendance, leave, overtime and payroll with payslips.
An assistant
Ask a question about your own figures in plain words and get the answer, with the documents it came from.
The full list, and how each part works, is in the help centre.
How we work
- One set of numbers. The books are built from your bills, not typed again beside them. A report can always be followed back to the document behind it.
- Your data is yours. Export an encrypted backup of your whole business whenever you like, and take a Tally file out if your accountant wants one. Nothing holds your records hostage.
- No advertising, ever. We do not sell or rent data, we carry no ads, we use no cross-site trackers, and we do not train AI models on your business records. The privacy policy names every outside service that ever sees anything, and what each one gets.
- Indian rules, not a translated foreign product. CGST and SGST in equal halves, input credit only against a supplier's GSTIN, e-way bills, TDS, the financial year starting in April, dates as DD/MM/YYYY, amounts in lakhs and crores where that reads better.
- TallyPrime conventions. Profit figures are kept clear of GST, GST paid to the government is treated as a statutory payment and not an expense, and the day book keeps a ledger per GST head. Your CA should not have to relearn anything.
- We answer our own support. There is no call centre between you and the people who wrote the software. Report something wrong with a figure and it gets looked at properly, because a wrong number in someone's books is the worst thing this software can do.
Who runs it
Bill Minutz is provided by MSM COMPUTERS AND DESIGNS, a proprietorship based in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu. The same firm sells and services computers, which is where the product came from: the billing, stock and service-job screens were built for work we were already doing by hand.
The legal detail — who the agreement is with, what we commit to, how disputes are handled — is set out in the terms of service and the privacy policy.
Talk to us
We would rather hear from you than not. A missing feature, a figure that looks wrong, a screen that is awkward on your phone — all of it is useful, and much of what the software does today started as somebody's complaint.
A photo of the screen and a line about what you expected is usually enough.
